About
Parkin undertook a transformative project at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, aimed at enhancing patient-centered care and community access to stem cell transplant services. This endeavor responded to the pressing need for advanced treatment options for adult cancer patients in Ontario, particularly those afflicted with blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. The ambitious project encompassed the design and construction of a 30,000-square-foot stem cell transplant unit, featuring 15 inpatient beds, outpatient services, a pharmacy expansion, and emergency power infrastructure upgrades. As the prime consultant, Parkin led a multidisciplinary team through every stage of development, from initial functional programming to construction documentation, tendering, and contract administration. With meticulous attention to detail, the team ensured that environmental controls met stringent standards for immune-suppressed patients, while also addressing the complex requirements for sterile rooms within the pharmacy clean rooms. By engaging in collaborative programming sessions and rigorous testing, Parkin successfully optimized workflow, spatial configurations, and compliance with building codes, resulting in a facility poised to deliver exceptional care and support to patients in need.
