As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on a year defined by momentum, collaboration, and meaningful impact. From major healthcare infrastructure milestones to international recognition, thought leadership, and community engagement, the past year showcased the strength of Parkin’s teams and partners, and our shared commitment to design that delivers real-world outcomes. Together, these achievements mark an important chapter in our ongoing evolution and set a strong foundation for what lies ahead.
This year brought notable recognition for Parkin’s work across healthcare environments. Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre was longlisted for the Archello Awards 2025 in the Hospital Building of the Year category, highlighting its design excellence on an international platform. Western Memorial Regional Hospital was also named as a Silver Winner in the Hospitals & Clinics category at the WIN Awards, reinforcing Parkin’s leadership in delivering high-performing, patient-focused healthcare facilities.

Thought leadership remained a cornerstone of our work in 2025, with Parkin contributing to global conversations on healthcare design, sustainability, and innovation. Our teams presented decarbonization strategies at the ASHRAE Building Decarbonization Conference, drawing on lessons from the Cowichan District Hospital project. Principal Kim Kennedy shared perspectives on the future of healthcare architecture through a featured podcast, while Parkin was highlighted in Justice Trends Magazine. In Vancouver, our office hosted a collaborative design charrette that generated creative ideas for reimagining the workplace.
Parkin’s expertise was further showcased through conference participation and speaking engagements worldwide. At the European Healthcare Design Conference, our teams delivered multiple presentations addressing mental health, safety, inclusion, and evidence-based design. We also contributed to the CCHF Conference in Quebec, sharing insights on emerging healthcare design trends, and continued our involvement with ASHRAE, focusing on resilient, low-carbon hospital design strategies.
Several major project milestones defined the year. Parkin was awarded the $13.9B Trillium Health Partners Broader Redevelopment Project, Canada’s largest healthcare infrastructure initiative. Cowichan District Hospital gained international attention for its decarbonization and resilience strategies, while Royal Inland Hospital Phase 2 advanced with a phased renovation approach that supports uninterrupted operations in a live hospital environment. The New Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus reached a 95 percent design milestone through strong multi-office collaboration, and Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre continued to gain global recognition.

Across the firm, collaboration and leadership were key drivers of success. Multi-office teams in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal worked together on major national healthcare projects, strengthening knowledge sharing and integrated delivery across regions. Parkin leaders represented the firm on global stages at ASHRAE, EHD, and CCHF, while partnerships with JLP Architects continued to deepen on significant healthcare redevelopments.
Throughout the year, Parkin also shared insights through a series of blog features that highlighted our values and expertise. These included explorations of decarbonization leadership at Cowichan District Hospital, strategies for renovating live hospitals at Royal Inland Hospital Phase 2, reflections on the Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment, and design insights from Grandview Kids Children’s Treatment Centre. Additional thought leadership emerged through work on the Infectious Disease Treatment Module, informed by the Accra IDTM simulation.

Equally important were stories that showcased the people and values behind our work. A Toronto Co-op Student–led Holiday Toy Drive Design Charrette demonstrated how design thinking can extend beyond project delivery to support community connection and social impact. This initiative reflected Parkin’s commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and creating opportunities for emerging professionals to apply creativity with purpose.

Building on this year’s momentum, we will continue to strengthen partnerships, elevate patient and staff experiences, and push the boundaries of sustainable, resilient, and human-centred design. With major projects underway across Canada and our teams contributing to global conversations, we enter the new year with clarity, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to shaping spaces that support wellbeing, dignity, and community for generations to come.
