About
Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health and Addiction is a revolutionary treatment facility that prioritizes the holistic recovery of its patients. The facility’s name, proposed by the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation, reflects the deep connection to nature and First Nations culture that is integrated into the treatment approach. The design of the facility is centred on patient needs, providing green spaces, natural light, private rooms, and therapeutic staff to create a peaceful and calming environment. Patients are gradually transitioned back into their communities with a focus on reducing trauma and including families in the healing process.
Red Fish is divided into seven coed units that are based on stages of recovery, each designed to support patients on their journey towards wellness. The centre also features a TV lounge, an eating area with indoor and outdoor tables, and a dedicated space for family visits. Patient safety and comfort are prioritized, with unique patient windows allowing for fresh air while preventing self-harm.
At Red Fish, patients can expect a patient-centred approach that is grounded in First Nations culture and focused on healing and recovery, providing a beacon of hope for those seeking to overcome mental health and addiction challenges.
