As a graduate student in architecture, I was told by one professor that women were not physically strong enough or intelligent enough to be architects. A different professor tried to give me a ‘C’ on a group project and the rest of the group, all guys, an ‘A’. And since I had done most of the work, I wasn’t too happy and told him that. Cup of Collaboration | Canstruction 2016

The Toronto design, architecture, and engineering community gives back with 22 canstructures and over 63,000 pounds of food for the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank!

We teamed up with Entuitive and PCL Construction to design and construct an award-winning exhibit for Toronto’s 17th Annual Canstruction competition. A unique food drive, Canstruction challenges the design community to help raise awareness around hunger in the communities they helped design and build. Read more

About Hamilton Health Sciences, Paediatric Oncology

Our biggest challenge was finding a way to increase patient capacity within the confines of the existing space. The Paediatric Oncology Unit was originally organized as a series of small treatment rooms with patient and staff spaces overlapping. Our solution was to connect those rooms and create a large open area called the Infusion Space. Read more

This week, as part of our Architectural Blog Series, we’re highlighting the major redevelopment completed by our team at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario.

About Southlake Regional Health Centre

Southlake Regional Health Centre has been serving its community since 1922, when it was founded as York County Hospital. New buildings were added over several decades to meet the needs of a growing community.  The older buildings proved unable to meet emerging infrastructural requirements for new health care technology and delivery models, as well as  life safety and building energy efficiency codes.  To meet these demands, Parkin designed a sophisticated campus transformation that included a new high rise tower, a complete gut of the existing 1956 tower and extensive renovations of the 1972 East wing.
