The newly rebuilt Arviligruaq Ilinniarvik School in Kugaaruk, Nunavut, has been published on Archilovers. Designed by Parkin Architects, the K–12 school was constructed in just two and a half years after a fire destroyed the original facility. Named after the bowhead whale, the school reflects local culture and community resilience.

With flexible learning spaces, dedicated areas for all age groups, and public amenities like a gym, canteen, and library, the school has become a vibrant educational and social hub. Design elements—such as natural materials and repurposed stones from the former school—connect past and present. The project also received national engineering awards, highlighting its significance.

The project’s structural design, led by Accutech Engineering, earned national recognition. In 2020, the firm was honoured with both the “Engineering a Better Canada Award” and the “Award of Excellence” by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies–Canada.
