About
The new #1 District Headquarters is a space designed with people in mind. The client and consultant groups worked closely together to ensure that the building exceeded the initial regional goals, going beyond just meeting the standards for LEED Silver and instead striving for the York Region 2031 carbon neutral mandate.
But what truly sets this building apart is how the design was tailored to meet the needs of the people who will use it every day. The building features a spacious lobby/atrium that creates a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, as well as a community room that provides a space for people to come together and collaborate. Staff offices and meeting rooms were designed to optimize productivity and teamwork, while staff amenities, including locker rooms, fitness room, and lounge/dining rooms, promote employee wellness and work-life balance.
To ensure the building’s functionality, efficiency, and sustainability, Parkin established a standard of excellence in project delivery by mandating quality tests for building performance. This included blower door tests conducted at key phases during construction to ensure that the building’s envelope performance was up to par.
