Speed River Track & Field Club and the University of Guelph, in partnership with Athletics Canada, has announced that they will be collaborating to serve as a Centre of Excellence (COE), the first of its kind in Canada, for the National Sport Organization and its athletes. Athletics Canada announced the opportunity earlier this year, outlining a set of expectations that the Guelph track and field community has been using as its foundation for years. Parkin is currently working on minor renovations to update the Gryphon Fieldhouse at the University of Guelph, which are scheduled for completion in November, 2018.
The existing building is a Parkin design completed in 2011. The 91 x 53m pre-engineered structure houses a 200m IAAF 4-lane indoor running track, 4-lane 60m sprint and hurdle track, pole vault, long jump, and shot put facilities, as well as training areas for high jump.
