Parkin is proud to have participated in the completion of Tuugaalik High School with Accutech Engineering Inc., providing design development, construction documentation and construction review services for Naujaat’s new school in Nunavut, Canada. The design and construction follows Northern Good Building Practice Guidelines and meets the challenges of the Arctic environment and site conditions.
The high school is designed to accommodate 210 students and provides a multifunctional, flexible and adaptable facility functions primarily as a school, but also serves the recreational and social needs of the community, after hours. Site orientation and the incorporation of natural light are typical design features throughout the facility. The main design feature of the school is the common / central gathering area, also known as a Kiva. All program elements, such as the classroom wing, gymnasium and daycare, have commonality in and around this impressive feature.
