The new inpatient Mental Health Unit at Ottawa’s Queensway Carleton Hospital officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 9, 2022, attended by local dignitaries, supporters, and donors. Parkin is pleased to have worked with Queensway Carleton Hospital on this inspiring project.
This was a highly anticipated expansion replacing the old inpatient unit, which had not seen significant renovations since the hospital first opened in 1976.
The facility features a psychiatric ICU area, a secure outdoor courtyard, a comfort room, and exercise rooms. Each of the 24 rooms is now private, and each has its own bathroom.
Many of the guests at the opening ceremony spoke about personal stories related to mental health, the increasing need for such services, and reducing stigma around seeking care for mental health needs. The next phase of the project will renovate the original floor into an expanded outpatient mental health services area, scheduled for completion in the fall of 2023.
