In collaboration with HH Angus, Parkin volunteered its healthcare design expertise to complete a technical report for the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Federation of Healthcare Engineering (IFHE) to assist L’Hopital provincial de Doba, Tchad, with its COVID-19 strategies.
This Hospital required a technical report to provide design solutions to repurpose three existing medical buildings into a single for suspected COVID-19 patients, and two buildings for inpatient treatment of COVID-19-positive patients. The design solutions were to meet cost effective and simple construction requirements.
The mechanical strategies supported the overall design, which was intended to utilize natural ventilation. The design team met and strategized with client representatives to address patient needs and provide drawings of existing building and site conditions. Strategies for IPAC were developed to minimize crossing of soiled and clean flows within the existing site and building structures. Existing building structures within the hospital grounds were used for COVID-19 assessment and treatment centres in order to minimize the need for new construction. An option for future growth and expansion was included for flexibility of user and patient needs.
We were proud to be a part of the design team and for the opportunity to work with WHO and IFHE to assist in providing solutions for COVID-19.
