Shane Czypyha, Architect AIBC, Principal
Shane Czypyha provides a hands-on, personal approach to his projects. An engaged project manager and project architect, he enjoys the tangible experience of taking design concepts at a project’s inception, developing the details through the design phases, and seeing the project come to life in construction. His experience includes projects in healthcare, education, residential and transportation sectors. In his capacity as Project Architect Shane has worked closely with clients, contractors, consultants, First Nations representatives, and design and BIM compliance teams. His strong interpersonal skills and organizational expertise make him adept at leading large project teams and collaborating in joint ventures.
Shane is a co-lead of Parkin’s Design Group, focusing on project management committees and systems. He previously served as BIM Leader for Parkin’s Vancouver office and has extensive experience in project documentation and delivery. Working in the BIM environment for over 15 years, he has unique experience working with large multidisciplinary teams and has provided BIM oversight for many projects. Through these experiences he has developed a strong ability to assess project needs and identify strengths of team members to optimize project delivery and support putting colleagues in the best situation to succeed.
Shane has a collaborative team-first approach, which is an asset, when leading a large, high-performance production team to design innovative solutions that respond to users’ needs. He leans on his wealth of P3 and Design Build experience as Project Architect to deliver, from project kickoff to handover, facilities that make their communities proud.
Claire O’Donnell, EDAC, Principal
Claire has an intuitive ability to work collaborative with patients and clinicians giving her invaluable understanding of the strategic issues facing our healthcare clients. Over the past decade at Parkin, Claire has developed a comprehensive knowledge of specialist medical sectors including behavioral health and cardiac environments.
Claire leverages her qualifications in both Architecture and Project Management, to manage large scale complex projects with diverse project teams through careful planning, robust procedures, using excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Claire strongly believes in a human-centric design approach focusing on social architecture and buildings that inspire and support wellness. She believes in building partnerships and collaborating with clients to understand and distill their needs into an effective architectural solution. Claire is committed to high quality design for all healthcare environments.
Claire has worked on numerous P3 /AFP projects across Canada including, St Joseph’s Health Care London and St Thomas, ON; New St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, BC; Halifax Infirmary, Halifax, NS; Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto, ON; Providence Care Hospital, Kingston, ON. She has a distinct focus on delivering cutting edge complex healthcare project such as Hybrid Operative Suites and several Cardiac Cath spaces at St Michael’s Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital Her international experience includes cultural and public sector projects in Ireland.
Claire taught at George Brown College for several years, and currently sits on a Professional Advisory Committee at George Brown College.
Sonja Dimitrovska, LEED AP ID+C, Senior Associate
Sonja is an innovative and highly experienced health care planner and master planner. Sonja has extensive experience in document writing, institutional planning, and interior design. In planning environments with clients, Sonja draws heavily on those same experiences. Finding out not just what the client needs, but who the client is and what they stand for is the foundation of this process. Sonja strives to distill the essence of the client’s vision for their future space and the engagement with their own environment, community, or different work cultures.
Her career experience includes: ErinoakKids (PDC-DBFM), Brampton, Mississauga, Oakville, ON; Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (pharmacy clinical planning/integration), Oakville, ON; St. Mary’s General Hospital (master plan), Kitchener, ON; and North York General Hospital (Campus Strategy Plan), Toronto, ON.
Laura Hann, OAA, RAIC, EDAC, Senior Associate
Laura Hann has a passion for people and an ability to connect with clients, understanding their needs and see these synthesized in the built environment. A keen sensitivity to the world around her has been nurtured through diverse experiences, including time studying and working internationally.
Within the firm Laura chairs the Parkin EDAC Committee and Project Delivery Committee along with involvement in other office initiatives. As Project Architect, Project Manager and Planner, Laura has been responsible for design, planning and coordinating with the design team, attending client and user group meetings, and ensuring conformity of all design requirements. Laura has over 15 years of experience and has participated in the planning process for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Cape Breton Island, NS; Etobicoke General Hospital, P3 Competition, Toronto, ON; New Oakville Hospital (P3), Edmonton Zones, Facility Analysis 2030 Planning, Edmonton, AB; Women and Newborn Hospital, Winnipeg, MB; and Forensic Services and Coroner’s Complex, P3 Competition, Toronto, ON. She was the Project Coordinator for the PDC Team for ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development, the Project Manager for the Scarborough Health Network Brideltowne Neighbourhood Centre Stage 2 Master Plan, Toronto, ON and is currently the Project Architect for Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre, Halifax, NS.
Ian Cheung, OAA
Over Ian’s 20-year career he has worked with a wide variety of clients in bringing many diverse project types to completion. He has a proven record of leading teams to deliver solutions of the highest quality in a timely manner, often in complex and challenging conditions. Ian’s expertise in building envelope design is fortified by his particular interest in building materials and the construction process. He has excellent organizational skills and experience with meeting demanding deadlines under pressure. As a designer, he resolves issues with creative solutions to meet clients’ needs. With his skills in 3D modeling and his experience with construction detailing, he strives to create innovative solutions to architecture.

Farshad Jamali, Architect AIBC, EDAC Certified
As Project Architect at Parkin, Farshad relishes a design challenge. Farshad has extensive experience designing through different phases of a project including preliminary design and negotiations with the client and the municipality, permit approval, and contract administration. Farshad provides a hands-on approach to his projects through all stages of his projects from schematic design stage until construction documents and oversees them through to completion.
Farshad has over 10 years of experience. His specialties include clinical planning and leading user group meetings, interior and exterior envelope detailing, consultant coordination, contract administration and site work quality control. Farshad’s extensive experience has made him a key contributor on the Royal Inland Hospital Project. Farshad lead the design detailing for public spaces and surgical floor at Royal Inland Hospital as well as assuming the role of assistant project manager through the design development and construction stages. Farshad has also undertaken to lead the user group meetings for the emergency department renovations as part of Royal Inland Hospital phase 2.
Bernadette Morillo, LEAN Certification for Facilities Design
A Senior Designer/Planner at Parkin, Bernadette Morillo has over 30 years of experience in architectural design specializing in healthcare design as well as other building types. Bernadette has developed an extensive skill set in functional planning, construction documentation, and contract administration. In these roles, Bernadette has been involved in the design of new and renovated healthcare facilities throughout Canada and worked on complex, multi-phased construction. Her experience in healthcare planning and technical expertise with production and construction aspects of design has proven valuable to the client and projects.
Bernadette is currently involved in the construction of the Phase 1 of the Royal Inland Project, Patient Care Tower. She provides the direct interface between consultants, contractor, and the trades regarding all aspects of the project and oversees the distribution of construction administration activities to the team.
Tysa Thomson, Architect AIBC, EDAC, LEED AP, PMP
A well-rounded Senior Architect at Parkin, Tysa Thomson has over 15 years of experience in architectural design specializing in healthcare as well as other building types. Tysa has developed an extensive skill set in functional planning, construction documentation, and contract administration. As an Architectural Designer and Senior Healthcare Planner, she has been involved in the design of new and renovated healthcare facilities throughout Canada and worked on complex, multi-phased construction projects. Proof of her experience in healthcare planning and technical expertise with production and construction aspects of design is the success of her projects and continued client satisfaction.
Tysa is currently engaged in the Royal Columbian Hospital, Redevelopment Phase 2, Acute Care Tower. She has excelled as a technical manager and been involved in close coordination with design team, trade partners, equipment manufacturers, and other stakeholders.
