At a recent Friday Morning Staff Breakfast Session, Parkin launched an internal staff design competition for Camp Couchiching “Windsurf Pavilion”.
Camp Couchiching is a not-for-profit camp and is well known for a wide range of water sports and programs for children. The ‘wind programs’ include sailing, and windsurfing is a shared program area. Over the decades, the sail/windsurf shack (affectionately known as the ‘Yacht Club’) has been worn down and battered by environmental elements.
The design competition, loosely called the ‘Windsurf Pavilion’, is intended to refurbish the existing windsurfing program area, including ‘the Yacht Club’ (storage shed), multi- purpose outdoor instruction/gathering places, with storage facilities for windsurf boards and sails. Other water-based programs— including canoeing, tripping, kayaking, SUP (stand up paddle board) and swimming—are accommodated elsewhere at the camp.
The competition closes on November 19, 2021. We are looking forward to receiving some creative submissions. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
“Jen Dundas, Executive Director for the camp and David Hargrave-Pawson, former Windsurf Program Head and brother of late camp alumni member and windsurfer Dean Hargrave-Pawson will be on the competition Jury with architects from Parkin Toronto and Ottawa offices.”
