Parkin teaching design in post-secondary institutions

Parkin staff numbers over 150 experienced architects, designers, project managers, administrative staff, and LEED accredited professionals, many of whom are dedicated to specific market sectors. We believe in personalizing the design experience for clients and maintaining a hands-on approach to projects.  To create innovative solutions for our clients, we are at the forefront of industry research and development.

We are dedicated to our vision “creating environments that positively impact lives” and by living out our mission to “design innovative solutions to promote positive and enduring social change.”  Parkin encourages our design team who are all experts in their field to share their knowledge and passion with the next generation. We encourage staff to dedicate time to creating an atmosphere of social change.  As such, senior members of our interior design team have been teaching at George Brown College in the School of Architectural Studies at the Casa Loma Campus over the past five years teaching a third-year course, “Interior Design Practice 3 – Healthcare Interior Design.”

Lecture topics include:

  • Introduction to Healthcare Interior Design
  • Accessibility
  • Mental Health Interior Design
  • Millwork
  • Infection Prevention & Control
  • Clinical & Semi-Public Spaces
  • Feature Spaces
  • Furniture in Healthcare
  • Wayfinding

We hope to inspire and empower future designers to create meaningful and enriching healthcare environments.

“Having a teacher that is a working professional provides context to what is being taught by providing  experience about the subject matter. It is also an amazing opportunity for us to share our passion, which I feel encourages students to be more engaged  therefore, benefiting them both academically and in their future careers.”   Andrea Langham, Associate
