We are proud to be working as a sub-consultant to our prime consultant, Accutech Engineering Inc., providing the design development, construction documentation and review for two new schools in Nunavut, Canada. The design and construction for both buildings follow Northern Good Building Practice Guidelines and meet the challenging needs of the Arctic environment and site conditions.
Repulse Bay High School
The high school is designed to accommodate 210 students and is intended to provide a multi- functional, flexible and adaptable facility that will be used primarily as a school, but also to serve the needs of the community after hours. The incorporation of natural light and site orientation are several design features that are present throughout the facility. The main design feature of the school is the common / central gathering area, also known as a Kiva. All program elements, such as the classroom wing, gymnasium and daycare, are plugged into and around this space to provide an area for the staff, students and community of Repulse Bay to use.
Arviat Middle School
The middle school is designed to accommodate 240 students and is intended to provide a multi-functional, flexible and adaptable facility that will be used primarily as a school, but also to serve the needs of the community after hours. The incorporation of natural light and site orientation are several design features that are present throughout the facility. The main design feature of the school is the common / central gathering area, also known as a Kiva. All program elements, such as the classroom wing, gymnasium and daycare are plugged into and around this space to provide an area for the staff, students and community of Arviat to use.
