On July 31, 2015, the New Oakville Hospital achieved substantial completion on time and on budget. Officially named the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH), this new state-of-the-art hospital will open its doors to the public on December 13, 2015.
As we count down the weeks to the grand opening of the OTMH, join us as we reflect upon and celebrate the key milestones over the past four years of construction in our blog series.
Breaking Ground for Construction of the New Oakville Hospital
On September 22nd, 2011, staff, physicians, volunteers, local officials and residents gathered at Third Line and Dundas St., to celebrate the start of construction on the New Oakville Hospital, a 1.5 million square foot build set to drastically change the landscape of Oakville’s existing healthcare system.
Designed to achieve LEED certification, the New Oakville Hospital will replace (and be three times the size of) the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) and will offer a full range of healthcare services.
Former Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) President and CEO, John Oliver, present at the groundbreaking celebration, said this is “history in the making” and will mark a milestone for Oakville, as well as those the New Oakville Hospital will serve.
“This is a huge project in size, scope and impact which will provide incredible benefits to our patients, staff and community all coming together to support HHS’ mission of providing quality, compassionate care and services to meet the diverse needs of our population.”
