In 2019, in response to the recommendations of the Premier’s Council to improve the care and wait times for long-term care, the Ontario government announced its intention to build 30,000 net new long-term care beds over 10 years and to redevelop existing, older homes to modernize standards. This triggered a search for suitable locations and an innovative team.
At the height of the pandemic, the intent was to build a six-storey, state-of-the-art long-term care home featuring a nine-station community dialysis unit, in just 13 months. Parkin was proud to be a part of a great partnership with G Architects, PCL Construction, Lakeridge Health, and Infrastructure Ontario in building Lakeridge Gardens, situated beside the Lakeridge Health Ajax Pickering Hospital. Parkin’s vast experience with P3 projects was a significant contribution towards the project schedule and budget.
Parkin Associate and Senior Interior Designer, Andrea Langham shares her insight on the interior design and various skillful contributions to the look and feel of the facility.
