“Behaviorally, when employees can choose an environment that supports them—whether they need quiet, stimulation, or a bit of separation—they’re not constantly expending energy to fight against the space,” explains Erinn Haley-Stevenson, Senior Interior Designer at Parkin Architects. “Once employees understand that they are allowed to move around and choose where they work, they start to self-regulate in ways that support their own productivity and wellbeing. But the choice has to be easy, not just theoretical.”
