Parkin Architects is pleased to share that Principals Laura Hann and Rebecca MacDonald recently presented to TWITS, a women’s support group associated with the Women’s Centre for Resources, on Women-Focused Hospital Planning. Their session highlighted key trends shaping care environments for women, including the growing impact of technology, hospitality-inspired arrival and waiting areas, family-centred spaces, inclusive and ergonomic design for diverse users, and the integration of natural light and biophilic elements. They also discussed emerging approaches to childbirth environments—such as space for family presence, birthing bath tubs, immediate newborn resuscitation within the mother’s view, and improved sanitary screening systems—underscoring the importance of designing healthcare spaces that promote dignity, comfort, and well-being.
