Artists Invited to Create Art for the Future Cowichan District Hospital
Island Health has officially launched a call to artists for the future Cowichan District Hospital (CDH), currently under construction and scheduled to open in 2027. Parkin is proud to be part of this transformative project that weaves cultural identity and healing into every aspect of the hospital’s design—including its art.
Artists from the Cowichan Valley and surrounding regions are invited to apply to have their work featured throughout the new hospital. The selected pieces will enhance the care environment by reflecting Cowichan Valley’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and deep connection to community.

Submissions may include:
Photography
Paintings
Graphic art
Carvings
Digital art
Soundscapes
Virtual reality
Knitting, textiles, and weaving
Sculptures
Prints
…and more.
Artworks may be placed in public and clinical areas, such as the community hall, Indigenous Gathering Space, and other healing environments within the hospital. Some pieces may also play a role in interpretive exhibits or contribute to the facility’s wayfinding system.
Applications are open now until June 30, 2025 – click HERE to apply !
