It is with mixed emotion, great admiration and gratitude that we announce the upcoming retirement of Cameron Shantz, Director of Parkin Architects. Cameron will officially retire on October 9, 2025, concluding a career of over 38 years at Parkin that has helped shape not only Parkin’s legacy, but the landscape of healthcare architecture across Canada.
As a Director and long-standing member of Parkin’s management team, Cameron Shantz has been instrumental in guiding the firm’s growth into one of Canada’s most respected and influential healthcare architecture practices. His steady leadership, strategic thinking, and deep expertise in the healthcare sector have shaped not only our projects, but also our internal standards, culture of mentorship, and long-term direction.
Cameron’s portfolio reflects his national impact and leadership on some of Canada’s most significant healthcare infrastructure projects. He played a key role in the development of Canada’s first Public-Private Partnership (P3) hospital—Brampton Civic Hospital in Ontario, and more recently, led Canada’s first healthcare project delivered using the Alliance contract model—Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan, British Columbia. He worked in Ontario for 30 years, relocating to Vancouver in 2018 to support the growth of Parkin’s BC office.
A nationally recognized expert in healthcare design, Cameron has been a passionate advocate for the integration of LEAN principles to improve patient outcomes, streamline operations, and enhance staff experience. His ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder projects with clarity, creativity, and integrity has earned him the respect of clients, colleagues, and industry partners across the country.
Though he will officially retire in early October, Cameron’s dedication to the success of our project teams remains unwavering. He will continue to support key initiatives and provide ongoing mentorship and training to Parkin’s next generation of planners, helping to guide the future of our firm with the same generosity and insight that has defined his career.
Cameron’s leadership, insight, and generosity of spirit have shaped the way we work and will continue to influence us moving forward.
Please join us in celebrating Cameron’s remarkable journey, and in expressing our heartfelt gratitude for the leadership, mentorship, inspiration and friendship he has provided. His legacy will continue to influence Parkin—and Canadian healthcare design—for years to come.
