Our November blog features the New Atrium at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in Kamloops, BC. The blog details how a timely design query reconceived a merely functional space into a vibrant, multi-purpose atrium—an aptly metaphorical new heart for the hospital.
Plans were unveiled in 2019 to address a much-needed patient-care tower. The $447 million, nine-storey facility will encompass the larger RIH campus and provide surgical, respiratory, maternal, and child services. The building will also provide 30 single rooms for mental health, and substance-use patients.
