Parkin Principal Kyle Basilius will be presenting at the 2025 ASHRAE Building Decarbonization Conference on October 22, 2025, alongside HH Angus. He will speak during Seminar 5, Presentation 2: “Building Resilient and Net-Zero Hospitals for the Future: A Spotlight on the Cowichan District Hospital Replacement Project”, taking place from 11:20 AM – 11:40 AM CDT at the Westin Chicago River North, Riverfront Room.
The Cowichan District Hospital Replacement Project is a groundbreaking initiative, prioritizing high-quality care, sustainability, resiliency, and cultural inclusivity. As Canada’s first hospital on track to achieve the CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Design Standard and British Columbia’s first fully electric hospital, it demonstrates how environmental and social stewardship can be integrated into patient-centred healthcare design.

Kyle’s presentation will highlight how innovative engineering solutions, energy-efficient systems, and collaborative project delivery methods support resiliency, pandemic preparedness, and designing for a changing climate. This project exemplifies Parkin’s commitment to advancing sustainable, resilient, and culturally responsive healthcare environments.
“Presenting alongside our engineering partners at ASHRAE is a great opportunity to highlight how integrated design and innovative engineering are shaping resilient, net-zero hospitals. The Cowichan District Hospital is a model for how sustainability and patient-centred care can align.” Kyle Basilius, Principal
