Braille Trail Promotes Inclusive Access to Nature at the future Cowichan District Hospital

As part of the new Cowichan District Hospital’s commitment to accessibility and inclusive design, a new Braille Trail has been introduced along the forest sensory path. This thoughtfully designed feature includes guide cables and braille signage, allowing individuals who are blind or experience low vision to navigate the trail independently and safely. The path is also fully wheelchair accessible and located near the East entry of the hospital. It is also adjacent to the service dog area, ensuring the walk is pleasant for both humans and their service companions, the trail provides a restorative outdoor experience for all—patients, visitors, and their service companions alike.
