Cindy O’Brien – Senior Associate, Registered Nurse & Clinical Planner

As a registered nurse, Cindy O’Brien brings high-level clinical experience and hands-on patient care skills to her role at Parkin. She has worked as a frontline nurse in hospital settings, including medical nursing, critical care, emergency, and post-operative care. Cindy’s nursing background and expertise in collaborating with clinical staff make her a valuable contributor to the design team. Her extensive expertise spans planning, quality improvement, change management, clinical planning, design, and commissioning. She is dedicated to improving patient care and supporting healthcare professionals in delivering safe, high-quality care through the development of new programs and spaces for patients and staff.

Anika Abdullah – Accessibility Advisor

Anika Abdullah specializes in accessibility design and guidelines, bringing a unique perspective inspired by her lived experience as an independent person with disabilities. With a background in universal design, she plays a key role in promoting inclusivity in the built environment. Anika supports the City of Toronto’s Access Art initiative, assessing the inclusivity of public art across the Greater Toronto Area, and serves as a member of the Toronto Accessibility Advisory Committee. She also hosted a Parkin YouTube info session titled “Barriers to the Built Environment“, where she shared her personal experiences and insights on accessibility.

Ryan Bui – Accessibility Advisor

Ryan Bui is an accomplished Accessibility Specialist and Architectural Technologist with a deep understanding of barrier-free and universal design. He plays a key role in ensuring accessibility is seamlessly integrated into projects across sectors, including transit, healthcare, education, and commercial spaces. Ryan leads accessibility drawing reviews, updates accessibility standards and illustrations, and provides expert consultation to enhance inclusivity in the built environment. His expertise ensures that projects not only meet regulatory requirements but also create functional, welcoming spaces for all users.

Elaine Hinderks – Interior Designer, Former Clinical Pharmacist Designer

With a background in clinical pharmacy and a passion for healthcare design, Elaine Hinderks brings a unique perspective to our team. Her experience in hospital and ambulatory care settings gives her a deep understanding of patient needs, workflows, and functional requirements—insights that directly inform her design approach.

Her expertise includes:

  • Collaborating with healthcare teams across inpatient and ambulatory care settings
  • Managing pharmacy operations, including staffing, inventory, and patient services
  • Organizing healthcare programs such as vaccination clinics, diabetes management, and mental health medication monitoring
  • Coordinating community health initiatives and in-store clinics

Now, as an Interior Designer, Elaine applies this knowledge to create spaces that support both patients and healthcare professionals.

Waqas Ahmed Aman – Mechanical Engineer & MEP Coordinator

Waqas Ahmed Aman is a Mechanical Engineer with extensive expertise in designing core mechanical engineering services for buildings and infrastructure projects. At Parkin, he is responsible for Mechanical, Electrical, and ICT coordination for the New Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Centre in Cloverdale, British Columbia.

He collaborates closely with our consulting engineering partners to ensure seamless integration with Parkin’s architectural design team. With his background in mechanical engineering, Waqas effectively bridges the gap between MEIT (Mechanical, Electrical, ICT) design and architectural requirements. His coordination efforts ensure that both architectural and engineering solutions are fully aligned, optimized, and integrated into our healthcare design projects.

Through their expertise and unique backgrounds, these professionals enhance Parkin’s ability to create patient-centered, functional, and inclusive healthcare spaces.
