Women are making incredible strides in the skilled trades, and the Women in Construction event on March 6, 2025, at the Cowichan District Hospital Replacement Project was a true celebration of their contributions!
Hosted by the Nuts’a’maat Alliance (Island Health, Parkin Architects, EllisDon, BC Infrastructure Benefits (BCIB), and Infrastructure BC), we welcomed our partners from the Vancouver Island Construction Association for a day of connection, learning, and recognition.
The event featured four engaging stations where attendees could:
🔹 Gain insight into the project and Alliance structure
🔹 Experience the hospital design through Virtual Reality demonstrations
🔹 Explore aerial perspectives of the project with a drone demo, while learning about landscape design, estimating, and the interconnected roles within the project
🔹 Take a guided construction site tour highlighting various trades, providing visual references to career opportunities in the industry

Tradeswomen, alongside professionals from construction and healthcare, shared their experiences and the meaningful impact they’re making in building the new hospital. Alliance representatives were also on-site to support and connect with the incredible women shaping the future of this industry.
