Parkin (in joint venture with Adamson Associates) is excited to be leading the design team for Canada’s first WELL® Certified hospital. Following extensive evaluations of responses to an October 2021 request for competitive proposals, EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH) has been selected as the preferred proponent to design, build, finance, and maintain the new South Niagara Hospital. Scheduled for completion in 2028, the 1.3-million-square-foot facility will be centrally located in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Spaces in the building are designed to prioritize the mental health and wellbeing of staff, patients, and visitors, creating a positive workplace environment to help attract and retain healthcare professionals. Culturally safe and welcoming areas for Indigenous peoples are incorporated, following engagement of representatives in design input.
EDIH will be responsible for assembling the construction team; however, Niagara Health will work with EDIH to promote opportunities for local businesses to become involved with the project. It will also be highlighting opportunities for community members to become involved.
President and chief executive officer of Niagara Health, Lynn Guerriero said, “The team at EDIH has created a truly impressive building design that is specific to our needs, showcasing their knowledge and expertise in healthcare infrastructure. The new state-of-the-art hospital is going to transform healthcare for the Niagara region and will attract healthcare workers to the region.”
