Red Fish Healing Centre nearing completion

Red Fish Healing Centre for Mental Health & Addiction is located on the 244 acres of Riverview Lands in Coquitlam, BC. The core guiding design and construction principles reflect the values of the community and the Kwikwetlem First Nation (“KFN”).

The three-storey, 105-bed facility will set a new standard in healthcare and community design by incorporating natural light and views of the Riverview Lands and surrounding area, among many other therapeutic treatment elements. The project team worked closely with the KFN to identify opportunities to integrate wellness aspects of community design wherever feasible, such as exterior facade design and colour palette, landscaping, public art, and community and wellness gardens. EllisDon continues to work closely with the KFN to ensure that all work on site is being executed carefully and respectfully, being mindful of the history of these lands and the significance they hold to the First Nation peoples who live there.

The site is home to approximately 1,800 mature trees. Accommodating the high priority trees on the site defined the final design of the facility, and the stepped building stacking leverages views and sightlines within a challenging site topography. The relaxed and informal landscape design is intentionally in line with natural forms of the site, providing an immersive exterior healing environment.
