New Facility, AFP (Alternative Financing and Procurement)
The William Osler Health Centre is one of Ontario's first two AFP, (Alternative Financing and Procurement), healthcare projects, initiated to support the healthcare needs of a rapidly growing population base in the Brampton region. The proposed 1.2 million sq. ft. facility will replace the existing Brampton Memorial Hospital as the primary acute care facility for the area, with 608 acute-care beds and 18 operating rooms. As lead architects for the project, in a joint venture with Adamson Associates, Parkin is responsible for the interior and clinical design of the new buildings, as well as project and construction management. The Parkin design includes a three-storey Diagnostics and Treatment Building, as well as a six-storey Inpatient Building linked via two sets of corridors at each level. When completed, the facility will have a total of 37 departments, ranging from surgery and diagnostic services to emergency and ambulatory care.
