Progress update – Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex Expansion

The Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex (WMRC) expansion is underway.  On May 1, 2020, the provincial government revised its guidelines regarding municipal construction projects; the WMRC project proceeded as planned.

The status of construction activities is as follows:

Site Work

  • Concrete work for new bicycle parking areas on the north and west sides of the site has been completed.
  • New passenger loading zone has been constructed at the north side of the main entrance.
  • Concrete curbs for an increased number of barrier free parking stalls are underway adjacent to the main entrance.
  • Site services connections on the west side and through the main entrance drop off area are complete.

 

Community Pavilion

  • Water main, gas and power tie-ins are ongoing.
  • Back-fill and road paving are ongoing.
  • Structural fill of footprint has been completed.
  • Raft footings and perimeter footings have begun.

 

Civic Front

  • Rerouting of site services has begun and is nearly complete.
  • Excavation for column footings has started.

 

 Interior renovations

  • Maintenance upgrades on M&E systems are underway.

 

Construction timeline

  • The WMRC expansion project has a 24 month construction schedule. Key Dates include:
    • Summer 2021: Occupancy of Community Pavilion.
    • Summer 2022: Project total completion.
